The efficient function of the immune system necessitates the complex interaction of antigens, antigen-presenting cells, and cell populations that modulate, regulate and effectuate the immune response. In order to overcome the spatial limitations that are imposed by the constraints of the system, the immune system has evolved a dependence upon the lymphatic vasculature to serve the biological needs of immune trafficking.
