Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) is a collection of inflammatory disorders associated with paradoxical worsening of preexisting infectious processes after the initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals.
