In this work, we evaluate the use of an HMD-based Immersive Analytics approach to explore multidimensional data. Our main hypothesis is that the benefits obtained, such as a more natural interaction and an egocentric view of the data, besides the stereopsis, will be able to compensate the typical downsides of three dimensional visualization, enabling a better comprehension of distances and outliers. This hypothesis was tested through a case study with roll call analysis, using dimensionally…

Immersive Visualization of Abstract Information: An Evaluation on Dimensionally-Reduced Data Scatterplots
TLDR
The immersive condition, however, was found to require less effort to find information and less navigation, besides providing much larger subjective perception of accuracy and engagement, resulting in overall performance benefits in both desktop and HMD-based 3D techniques.
The Impact of Immersion on Cluster Identification Tasks
TLDR
The study shows that an increased level of immersion can be a substantial benefit in the context of 3D data and cluster detection in VR environments.
The Data in Your Hands: Exploring Novel Interaction Techniques and Data Visualization Approaches for Immersive Data Analytics
TLDR
The purpose of the paper is to describe the core concepts and challenges for this type of spatial visualization and the related interaction design, including the use of gestures for direct manuipulation and a hand-attached menu for complex actions.

TLDR
A survey of IA from the early nineties until the present day is proposed, describing how rendering technologies, data, sensory mapping, and interaction means have been used to build IA systems, as well as how these systems have been evaluated.
Dimensionality Reduction and Subspace Clustering in Mixed Reality for Condition Monitoring of High-Dimensional Production Data †
TLDR
A mixed-reality implementation of immersive analytics that will support manufacturers as well as data scientists to comprehensively analyze machine data is presented that will simplify the analysis of manufacturing data through the usage of dimensionality reduction effects.
Comparing Weather Data in Display Environments to Measure Impact of Quality of Experience: Virtual Reality Versus Desktop
Over the past decades, the data quantity and complexity has increased rapidly. Without the right tools to present and analyse the large quantity of data, the data might become incomprehensible. To

Structure Perception in 3D Point Clouds
TLDR
A method to synthesize a 3D point cloud that contains a3D structure, where 2D projections of the data strongly resemble a Gaussian distribution is described, to provide definitive examples of 3D patterns perceptible in 3D scatterplots under rotation but imperceptible in 2D scatter Plots.

The Effects of Immersion on 3D Information Visualization
TLDR
It is hypothesized that a high degree of FOR will result in increased task performance and user satisfaction when visualizing data represented by scatter and surface plots, but the effects of these components would be greater in the scatter plots than surface plots.
Immersive and collaborative data visualization using virtual reality platforms
TLDR
Immersion provides benefits beyond the traditional “desktop” visualization tools: it leads to a demonstrably better perception of a datascape geometry, more intuitive data understanding, and a better retention of the perceived relationships in the data.
Perspectives for using virtual reality to extend visual data mining in information visualization
TLDR
This paper shows how a CAVE-like2 environment can allow the study of multi-dimensional datasets while keeping multiple 2D representations available, using genome comparisons as a usecase.
Beyond the classical monoscopic 3D in graph analytics: An experimental study of the impact of stereoscopy
TLDR
A comparative evaluation of monoscope 3D and stereoscopic 3D for an important problem in graph visualization: the detection of communities shows that stereoscopic3D outperforms both 2D and monoscopic 2D in the task resolution.
New insights into the suitability of the third dimension for visualizing multivariate/multidimensional data: A study based on loss of quality quantification
TLDR
A way to demonstrate the underlying superiority of three-dimensional representation, with respect to two-dimensional, representation is proposed, based on the inevitable quality degradation produced when reducing the data dimensionality.
Exploring the Benefits of Immersion in Abstract Information Visualization
The benefits of immersion with regard to information visualization applications have rarely been explored. In this paper, we describe a user study designed to explore a variety of information
Experiments in the Use of Immersion for Information Visualization
TLDR
A moderate trend indicating that immersion decreases the time needed to perform a spatial information gathering task is observed, indicating that this area of research can be applied immediately to the applications currently being developed.
The benefits of statistical visualization in an immersive environment
TLDR
The experiment results showed an improvement in participants' ability to perform structure detection tasks in the C2 to their performance in thedesktop environment, however, participants were more comfortable with the interaction tools in the desktop system.
Empirical Guidance on Scatterplot and Dimension Reduction Technique Choices
TLDR
It is revealed that 2D scatterplots are often 'good enough', that is, neither SPLOM nor interactive 3D adds notably more cluster separability with the chosen DR technique.
