To the Editor: Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in the female population in UK. About 38,212 new cases were registered in 2005 in England (1). There were 33,814 breast cancer operations done in the same year, of which 19,962 (59.0%) were breast-conserving treatment, 12,291 (36.3%) were mastectomies without immediate reconstruction, and 1,561 (4.6%) mastectomies had immediate reconstruction simultaneously (2).
