Egg and pupa of Lobeza dentilinea Schaus, 1901 are described and illustrated for the first time. Eggs are smooth, dome-shaped, and greenish at oviposition. Last instar larvae have an aposematic coloration and the chaetotaxy is very similar to other notodontines, except for the number of lateral setae: L. dentilinea has three instead of four lateral setae on abdominal segments A3-A6. Pupae are light brown and typical of the family, with the last abdominal segments broadly round. Evidence from…

Morphological Survey of the Maxillae in Last-stage Larvae of the Suborder Ditrysia (Lepidoptera): Mesal Lobes (Laciniogaleae)

These sensilla function possibly as proprioceptors, responding to movements of the mandibles, so that the delicate maxillary lobes and their vital gustatory sensilla can be drawn down to avoid damage during mastication.

Immature stages of Calycopis bellera (Hewitson) and C-janeirica (Felder) (Lepidoptera, Lycaenidae, Theclinae, Eumaeini): Taxonomic significance and new evidence for detritivory

Details of egg, larval, and pupal morphology are described and illustrated for Calycopis bellera (Hewitson) and C. janeirica (Felder), with a special emphasis on larval chaetotaxy. Wild-caught

Morphological Survey of the Maxillae in Last Stage Larvae of the Suborder Ditrysia (Lepidoptera): Palpi

Sensilla on the distal segment of the maxillary palpus of 36 species of ditrysian larvae were examined with the scanning electron microscope and a sensillar terminology developed.

Morfologia externa comparada das três espécies do complexo Telchin licus (Drury) (Lepidoptera, Castniidae) com uma sinonímia

The hypothesis of some authors of placing the three species of the Telchin licus complex in a single genus is here supported on morphological evidences from head, thorax, and abdomen.

Host-Plant Associations among Prominent Moths

Variation in host-use patterns with reference to one insect group, the moth family Notodontidae, is explored, finding examples of Lepidoptera with extremely broad diets; many of these, such as the gypsy moth, are pest species.

Cladistics and classification of the Notodontidae (Lepidoptera, Noctuoidea) based on larval and adult morphology. Bulletin of the AMNH ; no. 204

This chapter discusses the relationships among Notodontid Subfamilies, the major subgroups of the Trifid Noctuoidea, and the structure of these subfamilies as well as some of the interacting groups.
