The respective advantages and disadvantages of 6-fluoro-L-DOPA (6FD0PA) and 6-fluoro-L-m-tyrosine (6FMT) labeled with 18 F to image the dopamine (DA) presynaptic system in vivo were investigated by positron emission tomography (PET) in normal monkeys and in monkeys with l-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-induced lesions of the DA nigrostriatal neurons.
