Diverse pathologic conditions affect the central nervous system (CNS) and pituitary gland during pregnancy and the puerperium. Some are specific to the physiologic process of reproduction (eg, eclampsia, postpartum cerebral angiopathy, Sheehan syndrome, lymphocytic adenohypophysitis).
