Alpha-synuclein (Syn) is implicated in the pathogenesis of PD and related neurodegenerative disorders. Recent studies have also shown that alpha-synuclein can activate microglia and enhance dopaminergic neurodegeneration. The mechanisms of microglia activation by alpha-synuclein, however, are not well understood.
