Conversion of arachidonic acid to eicosanoids by kitten retinae was investigated to evaluate whether the pattern of kitten retinal eicosanoids simulates that found in the human and other animal species. Freshly isolated kitten retinae were incubated with 20 microM radiolabeled arachidonic acid, and the metabolites were analysed by reverse phase-high pressure liquid chromatography, thin-layer chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy.
