The paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus has efferent connections to autonomic nuclei known to ultimately regulate cardiovascular function. Studies have revealed projections to the sympathetic preganglionic neurons of the spinal cord and presympathetic motor neurons of the rostral ventrolateral medulla.
