Inflammation can contribute to tumor formation; however, markers that predict progression are still lacking. In the present study, the well-established azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mouse model of colitis-associated cancer was used to analyze microRNA (miRNA) modulation accompanying inflammation-induced tumor development and to determine whether inflammation-triggered miRNA alterations affect the expression of genes or pathways involved in cancer. A miRNA microarray…

The PI3K/AKT signaling pathway: Associations of miRNAs with dysregulated gene expression in colorectal cancer
TLDR
Gene expression in the PI3K/Akt‐signaling pathway is dysregulated in CRC and miRNAs were associated with many of these dysregulated genes either directly or in an indirect manner.
MicroRNAs in colorectal cancer: from diagnosis to targeted therapy.
TLDR
A comprehensive review of scientific literature describing aberrantly expressedmiRNAs, and consequently dysregulation of targeted mRNAs along with the potential role of miRNAs in CRC diagnosis and prognosis is provided as well as to summarize the recent findings on miRNA-based manipulation methods with the aim of advancing in anti-CRC therapies.
MicroRNA-1: Diverse role of a small player in multiple cancers.
Novel evidence for an oncogenic role of microRNA-21 in colitis-associated colorectal cancer
TLDR
Novel evidence for miR-21 blockade to be a key strategy in reducing CAC is provided, following azoxymethane and dextran sulfate sodium intervention and in a mouse model of CAC.
Profiles of microRNA networks in intestinal epithelial cells in a mouse model of colitis
TLDR
Insight is provided into gene-regulatory networks in IECs through which dynamic rearrangement of the involved miRNAs modulates the gene expression–regulation machinery between maintaining and disrupting gastrointestinal homeostasis.
MicroRNA-223 affects IL-6 secretion in mast cells via the IGF1R/PI3K signaling pathway.
TLDR
It was shown that miR-223 reduces IL-6 secretion in mast cells by inhibiting the IGF1R/PI3K signaling pathway.
An update on miRNAs as biological and clinical determinants in colorectal cancer: a bench-to-bedside approach.
TLDR
Cutting edge progress in the discovery of the role of novel mechanisms for miRNAs in the development of CRC is reviewed and it is anticipated that manipulation of miRNAAs may offer an alternative therapy for CRC treatment.
miR-218 inhibits the invasion and migration of colon cancer cells by targeting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that miR-218 suppresses the proliferation, migration and invasion of LoVo colon cancer cells by targeting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway and MMP9.
The Role of the Mediators of Inflammation in Cancer Development
TLDR
The main mediators of the inflammatory response are presented and the likely mechanisms through which, they interact with each other to create a condition favorable to development of cancer are discussed.
Cardamonin inhibits colonic neoplasia through modulation of MicroRNA expression
TLDR
Cardamonin inhibited the growth, induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human colorectal cancer cell lines and provides a better understanding of chemopreventive potential of cardamonin in coloreCTal cancer.

Differential Expression of MicroRNAs in Tumors from Chronically Inflamed or Genetic (APCMin/+) Models of Colon Cancer
TLDR
The aim of these studies was to identify microRNAs that are aberrantly regulated during inflammation and may participate in transformation of colonic epithelial cells in the inflammatory setting, and dysregulation of these miRNAs was confirmed in an independent sample set.
