Abstract A constrained step-based realization algorithm is developed to produce linear, time-invariant, state-space system estimates. To match a priori knowledge of the system behavior, the eigenvalues of the estimate are required to be stable, real, and positive; the step response is required to have no undershoot or overshoot; and the steady-state gain is required to match a known value.
