Complete identification of the translocations involved in evolution of S. vavilovii, S. africanum and S. cereale from S. montanum was attained by meiotic analysis after Giemsa banding technique. Based on the original mitotic karyotype of S. montanum, the different chromosome arms were determined by centromere position and banding pattern of chromosomes for the four species and all of the possible interspecific hybrids.
