Outer membrane vesicles (OMV) are used as a vaccine against Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B and are traditionally produced with detergent-extraction to remove toxic lipopolysaccharide. Engineered strains with attenuated lipopolysaccharide allowed the use of native vesicles (NOMV) with improved stability and immunogenicity.
