In aquatic environments some pollutants are present in water and sediments and organisms possess cellular detoxification systems to face up these xenobiotics. The gudgeon, Gobio gobio, is a freshwater benthopelagic fish that appears particularly adequate for an ecotoxicological assessment of rivers.
