The channel catfish pathogen Edwardsiella ictaluri possesses hemolysin activity, and strains that are adapted for growth in fish tend to have greater hemolysin activity than strains that are adapted for in vitro growth conditions. To investigate its potential role in virulence, an isogenic hemolysin mutant strain of E. ictaluri R4383 was constructed by transposon mutagenesis.
