El gusano rojo del maguey Comadia redtenbacheri Hamm, es apreciado por algunos consumidores como alimento, y le da valor agregado al mezcal embotellado. El reconocimiento de los instares larvales es importante para un mejor manejo del recurso, ya que no se cuenta con un criterio para seleccionar las larvas totalmente desarrolladas para ser utilizadas como pie de cria o para su comercializacion.
