Purpose: Ibopamine is used when performing provocative tests, thanks to its pharmacological property of increasing ocular pressure in eyes with outflow system impairment. This study summarizes the latest results that we have achieved with reference to its clinical-diagnostic use. Methods: 175 (250 eyes) POAG patients, 101 (190 eyes) glaucoma suspects with mild ocular hypertension, 39 (64 eyes) NTG patients and 163 (326 eyes) healthy volunteers underwent an ibopamine provocative test. Among the…
Early Glaucoma Screening Using the Ibopamine Provocative Test
TLDR
The ibopamine test showed an adequate diagnostic performance to detect individuals at increased risk of glaucoma in a very early stage of the disease.
Ibopamine provocative test and glaucoma: Consideration of factors that may influence the examination
TLDR
The Ibopamine provocative test may be an auxiliary test in glaucoma diagnosis and concurrent use of prostaglandin analogues reduces the test’s sensitivity.
[Prostaglandin analogues reduce the ibopamine provocative test specificity in glaucoma].
TLDR
The ibopamine provocative test may be an auxiliary test in glaucoma diagnosis despite the small sample size, concurrent use of prostaglandin analogues apparently reduces the test's sensitivity.
Ibopamina 2% vs. sobrecarga hídrica como teste provocativo para glaucoma
TLDR
In this selected subgroup of glaucoma patients with early visual field defect, the ibopamine provocative test has shown better sensitivity/specificity than the water drinking test.
The Comparison of Topical Ibopamine 2% with Tonography to Identify the Outflow Resistance in Eyes with Ocular Hypertension
TLDR
It is revealed that the ibopamine provocation test can detect outflow system resistance in eyes with OHT comparable with tonography which is a traditional outflow facility measurement.
Comparison between the 1% and 2% ibopamine provocative test in primary open-angle glaucoma patients: sensitivity, specificity and tolerability.
TLDR
2% ibopamine is recommended as a provocative test for glaucoma and because both concentrations have similar ability to rise IOP, 1% Ibopamine may be used to treat ocular hypotony.
Ibopamine: D1-Dopaminergic Agonist in the Diagnosis of Glaucoma
TLDR
D1-dopaminergic stimulation due to ibopamine increases intraocular pressure (IOP) as a result of increased production of the aqueous humor in participants with an impaired outflow.
Correlation between the ibopamine provocative test and the diurnal tension curve in glaucoma patients.
TLDR
The ibopamine provocative test shows a significant correlation with the highest intraocular pressure in the diurnal tension curve in glaucoma patients, however, no correlation was observed with the intraocular Pressure range.
Effects of Ibopamine Eye Drops on Intraocular Pressure and Aqueous Humor Flow in Healthy Volunteers and Patients with Open-Angle Glaucoma
TLDR
The results seem to confirm that ibopamine increases aqueous humor production in normal and glaucomatous eyes, raising IOP only in eyes withglaucoma.
Effect of ibopamine on aqueous humor production in normotensive humans.
TLDR
Ibopamine is in a specific class of drug, along with pilocarpine, epinephrine, and bimatoprost that in humans increases the rate of aqueous humor flow as measured by fluorophotometry, and is partly responsible for its ability to increase intraocular pressure in persons suspected to have abnormally low aQueous humor outflow facility.

Increase in aqueous humor production following D1 receptors activation by means of ibopamine
TLDR
Experimental data show how an intraocular hypertensive response due to ibopamine in normotensive eyes is a sign of initial outflow impairment in glaucoma, and the possibility to increase the aqueous humor production sets new trends in the treatment of post surgical ocular hypotony.
Dopamine, dopaminergic drugs and ocular hypertension
TLDR
It is hypothesized that dopaminergic system may play a role in the regulation of aqueous humor hydrodynamics, suggesting that IOP increase may be a result of a stimulation of the D1-receptors.
