This paper contains the results of the investigation of the two principal hydrocarbons produced by destructive distillation of caoutchouc and gutta percha. Isoprene. This substance is an exceedingly volatile hydrocarbon, boiling between 37° and 38°C.; after repeated cohobations over sodium, it was distilled and analysed. The numbers obtained as the mean of five analyses were as follows:— Three of the specimens were from caoutchouc and two from gutta percha. The vapour-density was found to be at…

Historical Development of Synthetic Rubbers
The earliest recorded accounts of the production of synthetic rubbers by polymerisation refer to isoprene (2-methyl-l,3-butadiene) (I), a substance which is closely related to the repeat unit in the
Thermal depolymerization and pyrolysis of cis-1,4-polyisoprene: preparation of liquid polyisoprene and terpene resin
Abstract The difference between controlled thermal depolymerization of natural and synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene as well as natural rubber unfilled reclaim and their pyrolysis is detailed in this
TECHNOLOGY UPDATE: Development of a gas-phase bioprocess for isoprene-monomer production using metabolic pathway engineering
TLDR
A sustainable production system for isoprene is being developed based on microbial fermentation of renewable sugars (BioIsoprene™), with two biosynthetic isoprenoid pathways being optimized towards this end.
Crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction analysis of mevalonate kinase from Methanosarcina mazei.
Mevalonate kinase (MVK), which plays an important role in catalysing the biosynthesis of isoprenoid compounds derived from the mevalonate pathway, transforms mevalonate to 5-phosphomevalonate using
Utilization of ICE exhaust gas as a heat source for pyrolysis of natural rubber as automobile fuel
This research determined the gain of thermal efficiency of an internal combustion engine when its exhaust gas was utilized as a heat source for natural rubber pyrolysis. A 350-cc motorcycle engine
Polymerization: Elastomer Synthesis
Publisher Summary This chapter is designed to illustrate elastomer synthesis. The development of synthetic rubber played a special role in the history of polymerization chemistry. This was primarily
