Uncooled thermal cameras using microbolometer focal plane arrays may be used in the long wave infrared (LWIR) for the optical detection of hydrocarbon gas leaks. The strong absorption of hydrocarbon gases in the LWIR may be used to advantage along with the LWIR optical transmission window of the atmosphere. Improvements in the detection algorithm and more robust electronic hardware have produced a gas imager that is well adapted to the detection of large hydrocarbon leaks. The new imaging…
Video-rate spectral imaging of gas leaks in the longwave infrared
We have recently constructed and tested a gas cloud imager which demonstrates the rst-ever video-rate detection (15 frames/sec) of gas leaks using an uncooled LWIR detector array. Laboratory and
Real-time imaging of methane gas leaks using a single-pixel camera.
TLDR
A camera which can image methane gas at video rates, using only a single-pixel detector and structured illumination is demonstrated, and an upsampled and smoothed image of the low-resolution gas image is overlaid onto a high-resolution color picture of the scene, recorded using a standard CMOS camera.

Developing a portable gas imaging camera using highly tunable active-illumination and computer vision.
TLDR
A portable gas imaging camera for identifying methane leaks in real-time, successfully imaging leaks from mains pressure gas supplies at a range of up to 3 m and flow rates as low as 0.05 L min-1.
Optical Gas Imaging With Uncooled Thermal Imaging Camera - Impact of Warm Filters and Elevated Background Temperature
TLDR
The results demonstrate that warm filters have a clear effect on the performance of the OGI camera and confirm the impact of warm filters and elevated background temperature on the operation of the uncooled thermal imaging camera.

Sensitivity limits on optical gas imaging due to air turbulence
Abstract. Infrared cameras are widely used for the detection of fugitive gas leaks and for quantifying gas emissions. While the gas detection sensitivity in the presence of noise is now well
Band optimization of passive methane gas leak detection based on uncooled infrared focal plane array.
TLDR
A simplified three-layer radiative transfer model is adopted based on methane gas detection theory, considering background radiation, atmospheric infrared absorption, gas absorption, and emission characteristics to analyze the contrast of methane gas thermography in different infrared bands, and results suggest that under certain conditions, the 6.6-8.6 μm LW band provides higher contrast compared to the 3-5  μm MW band.
Detectivity of gas leakage based on electromagnetic radiation transfer
Standoff detection of gas leakage is a fundamental need in petrochemical and power industries. The passive gas imaging system using thermal imager has been proven to be efficient to visualize leaking
