IR and FIR spectra of NH3 and ND3 on high surface areas of CaCl2 and CaBr2 were investigated. From the spectra in both regions it was concluded that ammonia is coordinated to the cation forming a complex of the type Ca(NH3)nX2. The internal vibrations of adsorbed NH3 showed the usual shifts for coordinated compounds. An absorption assigned to the rocking mode was found.
