  • This paper is concerned with the problem of interpreting ellipsis in a generative grammar without deletion rules and transformations. The theoretical framework is the Simpler Syntax Hypothesis presented in Culicover and Jackendoff (2005). The model accepts the goal of traditional generative grammar (Chomsky 1965, Chapter One), namely: to account for the native speaker‘s intricate and detailed knowledge of his or her language.
