The objective of this study was to determine the incidence of transverse cracking in concrete bridge decks and to investigate for possible relationships between the observed cracking and the structural aspects of the bridge superstructure. A total of 72 recently constructed bridges in the piedmont region of North Carolina were surveyed to determine the extent of transverse cracking.
