A review on immmnization in schistosomiasis indicates that immunization is certainly possible. Mice can be protected much more readily against S. japonicum than against S. mansoni. However, the Rhesus monkeys develop an acquired resistance to S. mansoni. Rats can also be easily protected with worm homogenates of S. mansoni.
