IL-8 is a novel chemotactic cytokine, produced by a variety of blood and tissue cells, that has marked activating effects on polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN). We report that IL-8 is produced and released by human PMN after stimulation with the chemotactic agonist FMLP. Release of IL-8 in response to FMLP was transient and not influenced by PMN adherence or by the absence of serum in the medium.
