The GH/IGF-I system plays a well-known hormonal role and its effects, mainly anabolic and insulin-sensitizing, are mediated through endocrine as well as paracrine/autocrine mechanisms. This system includes the binding proteins, namely GH binding proteins and IGF-I binding proteins (IGFBP). As expected, this axis plays a key role in organism modification in consequence of a physical exercise. Physical activity, training, and exercise capacity chiefly involve anabolism process modifications of…

Insulin-Like Growth Factor I Regulation and Its Actions in Skeletal Muscle.
TLDR
In this overview, the regulation of IGF-1 production, stability, and activity in skeletal muscle will be described, and the physiological significance of the forms of insulin-1 produced will be discussed.
The Role of Insulin and Insulin-like Peptides in Ischemic Stroke and Cognitive Impairment
TLDR
The IGF-I/insulin system is associated with functional outcome after ischemic stroke and levels of IGF-i and IGF-II are dysregulated in Alzheimer’s disease.
Exercise Metabolism in Health and Disease
TLDR
Hormones secreted by cells of the endocrine system regulate activity of cells in other parts of the body, they can be released in response to exercise-induced stress, and, among other multiple functions, they modulate metabolism during exercise.
Metabotrophic effects of aerobic training in male patients with metabolic syndrome
TLDR
An integrated metabotrophic and anabolic effect of aerobic training in patients with MetS was established and early measurement of these variables may have prognostic benefits for at risk population who progress to the generalized stage of cardiometabolic abnormalities.
The In fl uence of Exercise on the Insulin-like Growth Factor Axis in Oncology : Physiological Basis , Current , and Future Perspectives
TLDR
This review examined the effects of exercise prescription on the IGF axis in cancer survivors by evaluating the current scope of the literature and presented an in-depth exploration of the physiologic basis and mechanistic underpinnings of the seemingly disparate relationship between exercise and the IGFaxis in oncology.
The Influence of Exercise on the Insulin-like Growth Factor Axis in Oncology: Physiological Basis, Current, and Future Perspectives
TLDR
Although there is currently insufficient evidence to categorize the effects of exercise prescription on the IGF axis in cancer survivors, the inconsistency of results suggests a multifaceted relationship, the complexities of which are considered in this review.
Antioxidation improves in puberty in normal weight and obese boys, in positive association with exercise-stimulated growth hormone secretion
TLDR
Higher prooxidation and lower antioxidation were observed in obese boys, while antoxidation improves with puberty and postexercise, paralleling GH accentuated secretion.

IGF-dependent and IGF-independent actions of IGF-binding protein-1 and -2: implications for metabolic homeostasis
Insulin-like growth factor I as a biomarker of health, fitness, and training status.
TLDR
Although the fact that both increased and decreased IGF-I concentrations can be considered as reflective of favorable and beneficial health outcomes and may seem as a paradox and even contradictory, it is important to emphasize that, in both cases, measured IGF- I concentrations do offer important insight into physiological processes.
The role of insulin-like growth factor (IGF) binding protein-2 in the insulin-mediated decrease in IGF-I bioactivity.
TLDR
The data indicate that insulin acutely decreases IGF-I bioactivity through differential modulation of IGFBPs, thereby providing a further explanation for its association with the metabolic syndrome.

Circulating bioactive and immunoreactive IGF-I remain stable in women, despite physical fitness improvements after 8 weeks of resistance, aerobic, and combined exercise training.
TLDR
It is concluded that increased lean mass, aerobic fitness, and upper and lower body strength resulting from an 8-wk exercise training programs can occur without concomitant increases in either circulating bioactive or immunoreactive IGF-I, as well as associated IGFBPs.
Roles of insulin-like growth factor (IGF) binding proteins in regulating IGF actions.
Insulin-like growth factor binding protein: a possible marker for the metabolic syndrome?
TLDR
Abnormal expression of IGFBP was detected in various states of the metabolic disorders, suggesting that it could be used as a convenient and sensitive marker of insulin resistance, identification of insulin-resistant individuals at high cardiovascular risk, and may be an earlier marker ofThe metabolic syndrome.
Mechanical load increases muscle IGF-I and androgen receptor mRNA concentrations in humans.
TLDR
Results indicate that a single bout of mechanical loading in humans alters activity of the muscle IGF-I system, and the enhanced response to ECC suggests that IGF- I may somehow modulate tissue regeneration after mechanical damage.
IGF-I abuse in sport.
TLDR
An approach currently being investigated is based on measuring markers of GH and IGF-I action, which has already proved successful in the fight against GH abuse and, it is hoped, will subsequently lead to a similar test for detection of IGF- I abuse.
Unraveling insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 actions in human disease.
TLDR
This review reinforces the concept in support of the IGF/IGF-IR axis-independent actions of IGF BP-3 and delineates potential underlying mechanisms involved and subsequent biological significance, focusing in particular on functional binding partners and the clinical significance of IGFBP-3 in the assessment of cancer risk.
