Hypotrachynaformosana (Zahlbr.) Hale (1975), based on Parmeliaformosana Zahlbruckner (1934), is a common, easily recognized foliose lichen in subtropical and temperate zones of South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Africa, Central and South America, and eastern United States. It is distinct in its cortical pustules, sublinear lobes, and dichotomously branched rhizines and belongs to the Hypotrachyna livida group.
