Previously, we have reported that intravenous administration of bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) in rats kept at a subthermoneutral ambient temperature of 24 degrees C results in a fall in colonic temperature that involved the release of antipyretic products by peripheral macrophages.
