In the present study, we examined the hypoglycemic effect of two species of edible mushrooms which are widely cultivated in Egypt. Fifty-six male Swiss mice of average weight 25±5 grams were used in the study. Mice were randomly divided into two main groups. Group A that served as control did not receive any treatment and group B was sterptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic group. The latter was divided into three subgroups, B1 diabetic–insulin treated, B2 diabetic–oyster and B3 diabetic–button…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) strain 238 ameliorates the oxidative stress in STZ-induced diabetic mice
TLDR
Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) strain 238 ameliorates the oxidative stress in STZ-induced diabetic mice and has the ability to reduce the oxidative stressed mice.
Assessment of Health Promoting Behaviors AmongElderly Diabeticsatoutpatient Diabetic Clinic Helwan General Hospital *
TLDR
Elderly diabetics should be provided with intensive training and education in the health promoting behaviors of their diabetes by Health educator nurse in the diabetic clinic to guide them to better control of diabetes mellitus.

A Comparison of Hypoglycemic Activity of Three Species of Basidiomycetes Rich in Vanadium
TLDR
The Hypoglycemic effects of Coprinus comatus rich in vanadium on hyperglycemic animals are significant; it may be used as a hypoglycemic food or medicine forhyperglycemic people.
The Co-effect of Vanadium and Fermented Mushroom of Coprinus comatus on Glycaemic Metabolism
TLDR
The effect of fermented mushroom of Coprinus comatus rich in vanadium (CCRV) on glycaemic metabolism was studied and may account for the causes of CCRV-induced significant decreases of the blood glucose in hyperglycemic mice.
Comparison of Hypoglycemic Activity of Trace Elements Absorbed in Fermented Mushroom of Coprinus comatus
TLDR
Vanadium at lower doses in combination with C. comatus induced significant effect on glycemic metabolism in mice, and the sugar tolerance of the normal mice was improved.
Hypoglycemic Effect of a Lentinus edodes Exo-polymer Producedfrom a Submerged Mycelial Culture
TLDR
The hypoglycemic effect of an exo-polymer produced from a submerged mycelial culture of Lentinus edodes was investigated in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats and a single peak was found to have been a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 52kDa.
Kidney Function Indices in Mice after Long Intake of Agaricus brasiliensis Mycelia (= Agaricus blazei , Agaricus subrufescens ) Produced by Solid State Cultivation
TLDR
The prolonged intake of supplemented feed with A. brasiliensis mycelium didn’t result in indicative alterations in the kidney function indices, and the preventive use of the mushroom did not show any deleterious effects on kidney.
Hepatic LDL receptor mRNA in rats is increased by dietary mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) fiber and sugar beet fiber.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that mushroom fiber and sugar beet fiber lowered the serum total cholesterol level by enhancement of the hepatic LDL receptor mRNA.
Vitamin B12 is the active corrinoid produced in cultivated white button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus).
TLDR
Analysis of vitamin B(12) in freshly harvested white button mushrooms was performed by affinity chromatography and HPLC-ESI-MS techniques, suggesting that the consumer may benefit from the consumption of mushroom to increase intake of this vitamin in the diet.
