Hypoglycemic, diuretic and hypocholesterolemic effects of roots of W. somnifera (ashvagandha) were assessed on human subjects. Six mild NIDDM subjects and six mild hypercholesterolemic subjects were treated with the powder of roots of W. somnifera for 30 days. Suitable parameters were studied in the blood and urine samples of the subjects along with dietary pattern before and at the end of treatment period. Decrease in blood glucose was comparable to that of an oral hypoglycemic drug…

Hypoglycaemic and Hypolipidaemic Effects of Withania somnifera Root and Leaf Extracts on Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats
TLDR
Treatment of the diabetic rats withWSREt, WSLEt and glibenclamide restored the changes of the above parameters to their normal level after eight weeks of treatment, indicating that WSREt and WSLET possess hypoglycaemic and hypolipidaemic activities in alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus (DM) rats.
Hypoglycaemic effects of the aqueous seed extract of Hunteria umbellata in normoglycaemic and glucose-and nicotine-induced hyperglycaemic rats
TLDR
The data generated in the present study has a strong positive correlation with its folkloric use in the treatment of suspected type 2 diabetic patients, although its use should be with great caution.
Effects of combination of Shilajit extract and Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) on fasting blood sugar and lipid profile.
TLDR
At the end of the therapy period, it was found that the drug had considerably reduced symptoms related to diabetes, average fasting blood sugar and lipid profile.
Withania somnifera shows a protective effect in monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertension
TLDR
This study demonstrated that W. somnifera significantly protected against MCT-induced PH due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, pro-apoptotic, and cardioprotective properties.
Effect of Dianex, a herbal formulation on experimentally induced diabetes mellitus
Dianex, a polyherbal formulation consisting of the aqueous extracts of Gymnema sylvestre, Eugenia jambolana, Momordica charantia Azadirachta indica, Cassia auriculata, Aegle marmelose, Withania

TLDR
The results suggest that EECM could be beneficial in the treatment of atherosclerosis, characterized by atherogenic lipoprotein profile and abnormalities in lipid metabolism.
Influence of Withania somnifera on 24 h oscillations of biomarkers in gentamicin induced nephrotoxicity
TLDR
It is concluded that W. somnifera alter the circadian variations directly with its valuable bioactive compounds, which could pave a way for future investigation for therapeutic approach.
A Review on Pharmacological Profile of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha).
TLDR
Research indicates ashwagandha possesses antioxidant, anxiolytic, adaptogen, memory enhancing, antiparkinsonian, antivenom, antiinflammatory, antitumor properties, which are very encouraging and indicate this herb should be studied more extensively to confirm these results and reveal other potential therapeutic effects.
IN VITRO AND IN VIVO STUDIES ON THE HYPOGLYCAEMIC POTENTIAL OF ASHWAGANDHA (WITHANIA SOMNIFERA) ROOT
TLDR
The study reveals that W. somnifera utilise different mechanisms to exert hypoglycaemic effect and has phytocomponent which can prevent stress induced hyperglycaemia, which may be a potential anti stress drug.

TLDR
There was significant increase in body weight, food consumption and liver weight, and improved hematopoiesis was observed, and subacute toxicity studies in rats did not reveal any toxicity.
Effect of Trasina, an Ayurvedic herbal formulation, on pancreatic islet superoxide dismutase activity in hyperglycaemic rats.
TLDR
Transina (TR), an Ayurvedic herbal formulation comprising of Withania somnifera, Tinospora cordifolia, Eclipta alba, Ocimum sanctum, Picrorrhiza kurroa and shilajit had little per se effect on blood sugar concentrations and islet SOD activity in euglycaemic rats, in the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg.

Treatment with the indigenous formulation for the period of 3 months produced significantly greater relief of pain, decreased morning stiffness, decrease in Ritche articular index and joint score and side effects observed did not necesitate withdrawal of treatment.
Studies on the hypotensive effect of high potassium intake in patients with essential hypertension.
TLDR
The results suggest that the hypotensive effect of high potassium intake may be caused by reduction of body fluid volume via augmentation of Na excretion.
Estimation of the concentration of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in plasma, without use of the preparative ultracentrifuge.
TLDR
A method for estimating the cholesterol content of the serum low-density lipoprotein fraction (Sf0-20) is presented and comparison of this suggested procedure with the more direct procedure, in which the ultracentrifuge is used, yielded correlation coefficients of .94 to .99.
