BACKGROUND Previously, we demonstrated that hypertonic saline solution (HTS) and endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide [LPS]) induce prostacyclin (PGI(2)) production in human endothelial cells. Here, we hypothesized that HTS and LPS may induce PGI(2) production by increasing cyclooxygenase (COX) expression.
