Prevalence of hypertension is greater than normal in patients with type 1 (insulin-dependent) and type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. In those with type 2 diabetes insulin resistance and hyperinsulinaemia may play a part in the pathogenesis of hypertension independent of obesity.
