Transient hyperammonemia was observed in rats after inhalation anesthesia with ether. The elevation of blood ammonia concentration induced by ether anesthesia was greatest in carbon tetrachloride injured and indomethacin-treated rats, but not observed in phenobarbital-treated rats.
