Sources and distribution of organic matter along the Ring of Cenotes, Yucatan, Mexico: sterol markers and statistical approaches.
TLDR
To investigate the sources of organic matter in this aquifer, sediment samples were collected from cenotes and analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and good consistency was observed between the source assignment and the land use context and the season. Expand
Groundwater geochemistry of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico: Constraints on stratigraphy and hydrogeology
Summary We report 87Sr/86Sr and ion concentrations of sulfate, chloride, and strontium in the groundwater of the northern and central Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Correlation between these dataExpand
Mexican anchialine fauna — With emphasis in the high biodiversity cave El Aerolito
TLDR
A thorough checklist of all the species occurring at El Aerolito cave system, Cozumel, Quintana Roo, which has been identified as one of the richest and most biodiverse of the world, and 12 of the species enlisted are in the highest categories of concern. Expand
Delimitation of a hydrogeological reserve for a city within a karstic aquifer: the Merida, Yucatan example
Abstract Merida is the largest city in southeastern Mexico, where the urban supply is obtained mainly from three wellfields outside of the urban limits in a karst aquifer that is particularlyExpand
Water resource management in karstic catchments: the case of the Asso Torrent basin (Southern Italy)
In karstic endorheic basins the hydraulic works for runoff regulation, marshland reclaiming and defense from inundations usually consist of channels tributary to sinkholes vertically connected toExpand
Development of a Protection Strategy of Karst Limestone Aquifers: The Merida Yucatan, Mexico Case Study
In many regions karstic aquifers constitute the only available source of drinking water. Due to the high risk of contamination in these aquifers, a comprehensive groundwater protection and controlExpand

Hydrogeologic Constraints on Yucatn's Development
TLDR
It is concluded that any strategy for long-range land use in the study area should include establishment of a regional aquifermonitoring network forLong-term measurements of key hydrogeologic parameters, including precipitation, evapotranspiration, water table elevations, and water quality. Expand

Determination of flow characteristics in the aquifer of the Northwestern Peninsula of Yucatan, Mexico
Abstract Flow characteristics were studied in the Northwestern Peninsula of Yucatan, Mexico. The Yucatan aquifer is a mature karst system, influenced by the Ring of Cenotes (sinkholes). This zone ofExpand
Groundwater Contamination by Nitrates in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Abstract: Limestone is the main rock type that underlies the northern Yucatan Peninsula, and the region is therefore characterized by karstic features and high permeability and porosity. RainfallExpand
