In this research; attempt to modify the traditional gabion stepped weir (TGSW) was investigated. Gravel was replaced by new available locally and inexpensive media which is Porcelnite and lime stone. The efficiency of dissipating flow energy, classify the flow types and its efficiency in removal copper (Cu) from simulated wastewater. Six of different discharges values were carried out for investigate hydraulics behavior, water surface profile, the energy dissipation for modified gabion stepped…

Hydraulic Characteristics of Gabion-Stepped Weirs

Experimental studies on the hydraulics of flow through and over gabion-stepped weirs are presented. Two flow components were observed, i.e., base flow through the void between filled stones and

Flow and Energy Dissipation Over Stepped Gabion Weirs

Gabions are a common construction material in the African Sahel and elsewhere, especially for spillways. Stepped gabion spillways are structurally stable, resistant to water loads, and efficient

An experimental study of effects of step roughness in skimming flows on stepped chutes

On a spillway chute, a stepped design increases the rate of energy dissipation on the chute itself and reduces the size of a downstream energy dissipater. Up to date, the effects of step roughness on

Laboratory Study of Flow Energy Dissipation Using Stepped Weirs

A laboratory study was conducted on stepped and unstepped weirs in order to find their efficiency of dissipating flow energy. Thirty six weirs were constructed and tested to compare between stepped

Historical Development of Stepped Cascades for the Dissipation of Hydraulic Energy

Recent advances in technology have permitted the construction of large dams, reservoirs and channels. These have necessitated the development of new design and construction techniques, particularly

Evaluation of quality of drinking water from Baghdad, Iraq

This is a joint work between the Italian Red Cross and the Environmental Laboratories, Baghdad. The drinking water (DW) samples from 16 residential districts in Baghdad were chemically evaluated with

Comparison of energy dissipation between nappe and skimming flow regimes on stepped chutes

SummaryFor the last decades, stepped spillways have become a popular method for handling flood releases. The flow regime over a stepped chute can be either a nappe flow or skimming flow regime. The

Assessment of Water Quality in Tigris River-Iraq by Using GIS Mapping

In this study, 96 water samples were collected from the Tigris River within Baghdad city. These samples were used for studying the physical and chemical parameters by using a geographical information

Open Channel Hydraulics

The difference between bounded flows and flows in which free surfaces are present is that the flow areas in free-surface flows are not determined by their fixed boundaries, but by the need to
