Within the species complex of Daphnia galeata,D. cucullata and D. hyalina variouscombinations of hybrids and parental taxa occur inlakes throughout Europe. Since daphnids are cyclicparthenogens and mostly reproduce asexually, hybridpopulations can be maintained by asexual reproductionand without recurrent hybridization events.
