We present the results of a synthetic spectral analysis of HST STIS spectra of five long-period dwarf novae obtained during their quiescence to determine the properties of their white dwarfs, which are little known for systems above the CV period gap. The five systems, TU Men, BD Pav, SS Aur, TT Crt, and V442 Cen, were observed as part of an HST Snapshot project. The spectra are described and fitted with combinations of white dwarf photospheres and accretion disks. We provide evidence that the…

A FAR ULTRAVIOLET SPECTROSCOPIC EXPLORER SURVEY OF HIGH-DECLINATION DWARF NOVAE

We present a spectral analysis of the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spectra of eight high-declination dwarf novae (DNs) obtained from a Cycle 7 FUSE survey. These DN systems have not

THE ACCRETING WHITE DWARF IN SS CYGNI REVEALED

We have carried out a combined Hubble Space Telescope (HST/GHRS) and Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) analysis of the prototype dwarf nova SS Cygni during quiescence. The FUSE and HST

White Dwarf Photospheric Abundances in Cataclysmic Variables—II. White Dwarfs with and without a Mask

Taking advantage of the now-available Gaia EDR3 parallaxes, we carry out an archival Hubble Space Telescope (HST) far-ultraviolet spectroscopic analysis of 10 cataclysmic variable systems, including

Distances and absolute magnitudes of dwarf novae: murmurs of period bounce

We redetermine the relationship between absolute magnitude and orbital period for dwarf novae, based on 46 stars with good distance estimates. This improves upon Warner's previous relation, building

A SURVEY OF FAR ULTRAVIOLET SPECTROSCOPIC EXPLORER OBSERVATIONS OF CATACLYSMIC VARIABLES

During its lifetime, the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) was used to observe 99 cataclysmic variables (CVs) in 211 separate observations. Here, we present a survey of the

Modeling UX Ursae Majoris: An Abundance of Challenges

We present a system model for optical and far-UV spectra of the nova-like variable UX UMa involving a white dwarf, secondary star, gas stream, hot spot, and accretion disk using our code BINSYN and

Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer Spectroscopy of the Nova-like Cataclysmic Variable BB Doradus

We present an analysis of the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spectra of the little-known southern nova-like cataclysmic variable, BB Doradus. The spectrum was obtained as part of our

THE WHITE DWARF IN EM CYGNI: BEYOND THE VEIL

We present a spectral analysis of the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spectra of the eclipsing double-line spectroscopic binary EM Cygni (EM Cyg), a Z Cam DN system. The FUSE spectrum,

THE HOT COMPONENTS OF AM CVn HELIUM CATACLYSMICS

We present the results of a multi-component synthetic spectral analysis of the archival far-ultraviolet spectra of the hot components of several AM CVn double degenerate interacting binaries with

AN ONLINE CATALOG OF CATACLYSMIC VARIABLE SPECTRA FROM THE FAR-ULTRAVIOLET SPECTROSCOPIC EXPLORER

We present an online catalog containing spectra and supporting information for cataclysmic variables that have been observed with the Far-Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). For each object in

The Dwarf Novae during Quiescence

We present a synthetic spectral analysis of nearly the entire far-ultraviolet (FUV) IUE archive of spectra of dwarf novae (DNe) in or near their quiescence. We have examined all of the systems for

Far-Ultraviolet FUSE Observations of the Dwarf Novae SS Aurigae and RU Pegasi in Quiescence

We have analyzed the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spectra of two U Geminorum type dwarf novae, SS Aurigae and RU Pegasi, observed 28 days and 60 days (respectively) after their last

A FAR-ULTRAVIOLET STUDY OF THE HOT WHITE DWARF IN THE DWARF NOVA WW CETI

We present a synthetic spectral analysis of IUE archival and FUSE (Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer) far-UV spectra of the peculiar dwarf nova WW Cet. During the quiescence of WW Cet, a white

Anomalous Cooling of the Massive White Dwarf in U Geminorum Following a Narrow Dwarf Nova Outburst

We obtained Hubble Space Telescope Goddard High-Resolution Spectrograph medium-resolution (G160M grating), phase-resolved spectroscopic observations of the prototype dwarf nova U Geminorum during

Hubble Space Telescope FOS spectroscopy of the ultrashort-period dwarf nova WZ Sagittae: The underlying degenerate

Two consecutive Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS) spectra of the exposed white dwarf in the ultrashort-period, high-amplitude, dwarf nova WZ Sge, reveal a rich absorption

FUSE Observations of the Dwarf Novae UU Aql, BV Cen, and CH UMa in Quiescence

We report on FUSE spectra of three U Gem-type, long-period dwarf novae, UU Aql, BV Cen, and CH UMa, taken during their quiescence intervals. We discuss the line identifications in their spectra and

TT Crateris - A long-period, double-lined dwarf nova

Time-resolved CCD photometry and spectroscopy of the dwarf nova TT Crt during quiescence are presented. The spectra reveal Balmer emission as well as absorption features of a K5-M0 secondary. The B,

The far-ultraviolet spectrum of Z Camelopardalis in quiescence and standstill

We have obtained FUSE (905-1187 Å) spectra of the nonmagnetic cataclysmic variable Z Cam during a period of quiescence. The spectrum resembles that of a hot (57,000 K) metal-enriched white dwarf. A
