BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The search for molecular markers for cancer, using "discovery-based" techniques, has resulted in claims of a very high degree of discrimination both for cancer diagnosis (e.g., serum proteomics patterns) and prognosis (e.g., RNA expression genomic signatures).
