This article discusses the criteria used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to decide which products it will endorse with the WaterSense label. Several aspects of the selection process are reviewed, including: initial screening of water efficient products; preliminary analysis of potential water and cost savings; in‐depth market and technology assessment research and analysis; and, developing a research agenda and notifying the public.
