Activation of NF-kappaB by the intracellular pathogen Toxoplasma gondii is associated with the localization of phosphorylated IkappaB alpha to the parasitophorous vacuole membrane (PVM). This is mediated by a parasite-derived IkappaB kinase (TgIKK) activity and is independent of host IKK function.
