Abstract A new species of nasute termite, Hospitalitermes krishnai sp. n., is described from soldiers and workers discovered in Lampung Province, Sumatra. This species can be distinguished from other related Hospitalitermes species from Southeast Asia by the anterior part of head capsule that is much smaller than the posterior part, head capsule that is moderately constricted behind the antennal sockets, and relatively deep depression between the head and nasus and, finally, the short and…

A new species of open-air processional column termite, Hospitalitermes nigriantennalis sp. n. (Termitidae), from Borneo

A new species of open-air processional column termite is described based on the soldier and worker castes from eight colonies in north Barito, central Kalimantan that is readily distinguished in the field by the light brown to orangish coloration of the soldier head capsule.

Taxonomy of the genus Longipeditermes Holmgren (Termitidae, Nasutitermitinae) from the Greater Sundas, Southeast Asia

Two species of the genus Longipeditermes, L. kistneri and L. logipes, are recognized and redescribed with color photographs of the workers and major soldiers with variation in characters of soldier caste and worker caste to distinguish these two species.

This paper described a nasute termite, Bulbitermes singaporiensis, being collected from various habitats and altitudes at the Gunung Leuser National Park. This species constructs round, ball-like

A taxonomic key based on soldier and worker characters for an open air processional column termites genera, Lacessititermes, was constructed from material collected from Sumatra and adjacent islands

Hospitalitermes hospitalis of open-air processional column termites from Central Kalimantan, Borneo Indonesia showed a large variation of nesting sites and dimorphism of worker caste.

Virome of Three Termite Species from Southern Vietnam

The virome of termites collected in the Cat Tien National Park shows homology with viruses recently discovered in the edible basidiomycete mushrooms, and several contigs with relation to Chuviridae and Deltaflexiviridae did not correspond to complete virus genomes.

Abstract. 1. A single nest of the black surface‐foraging nasute termite Hospitalitermes umbrinus was studied for 5 days in July 1978. Foraging parties of workers and soldiers tend to leave the nest

Proximate mechanisms and evolution of caste polyphenism in social insects: From sociality to genes

Several studies that were performed recently by Matsumoto Laboratory in various social insects, such as termites and ants, in order to reveal the regulatory mechanisms of social behavior and the evolutionary processes of sociality are discussed.

Darwin's special difficulty: the evolution of “neuter insects” and current theory

Darwin was prescient in having insights with close relationships to modern-day interests and the key principles involved, including kinship and benefits to the colony, even if these are not exact precursors to modern thinking.
