Homology, biogeography and areas of endemism
@article{Morrone2001HomologyBA, title={Homology, biogeography and areas of endemism}, author={Juan J. Morrone}, journal={Diversity and Distributions}, year={2001}, volume={7} }
Hypotheses of biogeographic homology constitute the basis of historical biogeography. Primary biogeographic homology refers to a conjecture on a common biogeographic history, and secondary biogeographic homology refers to the cladistic test of the formerly recognized homology. Panbiogeography deals with the former, through the recognition of generalized tracks and areas of endemism, whereas cladistic biogeography deals with the latter, through the generation of general area cladograms. What Is Evolutionary Biogeography?
- Environmental Science, Geography
- 2020
The geological and biological knowledge available is integrated to construct a geobiotic scenario that helps explain the way different dispersal and vicariance events contributed to biotic assembly and how the cenocrons dispersed to the biota analyzed.

The PAE cladogram indicates that many of the extant terebellid worms from the current Southern Hemisphere (“Gondwanan clades”) have originated from Laurasian ancestors or, in the case of Brazilian, South Atlantic and Antarctic taxa, have descended directly from an ancestral lineage common to some Northern areas.

- Biology
- 2005
The distributional patterns of the genus Polietina Schnabl & Dziedzicki, 1911 (Diptera, Muscidae; including 15 species) are analysed by applying panbiogeographic tools to recognise and propose primary homologous areas within the Neotropical region.
Forum on historical biogeography: what is cladistic biogeography?
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 2005
The distinction between cladistic and phylogenetic biogeography is found to be interesting as it does delimit a theoretical rather than a methodological division in historicalBiogeography.

The Ae showed a NR with multiple boundaries and with a core of higher overlap of the areas of endemism (OAE) from Veracruz and the Pacific coasts of Mexico to the southern limit of Amazonia in Brazil, which is consistent with the higher mammal-species richness zone within the tropical biomes and other biogeographic patterns such as higher productivity and spatial heterogeneity.
