We present the design, architecture, and detailed performance predictions for a class of ground-plane acoustic cloaking shells. The design begins with a coordinate transformation which, in contrast to a quasiconformal design, yields a homogeneous but anisotropic material and a shell size that is comparable to the size of the object to be hidden. We apply the general approach to the design of a broadband acoustic cloak in water, in which the desired material parameters are realized through…

Design and assessment of an acoustic ground cloak with layered structure

In this paper, a two-dimensional acoustic ground cloak with alternating layered structure composed of mercury and water is designed on the basis of transformation acoustics and effective medium

Three-dimensional broadband omnidirectional acoustic ground cloak.

The design and experimental characterization of an almost perfect three-dimensional, broadband, and, most importantly, omnidirectional acoustic device that renders a region of space three wavelengths in diameter invisible to sound.

Underwater Acoustic Manipulation Using Solid Metamaterials With Broadband Anisotropic Density

A new type of all-solid metamaterial model with anisotropic density and fluid-like elasticity is proposed for controlling acoustic propagation in an underwater environment. The model consists of a

Wave Manipulation by Topology Optimization

Topology optimization can be used to design structures for manipulation of the electromagnetic and acoustic waves by optimizing the spatial placement and distribution of the media, which the waves encounter.

A unidirectional acoustic cloak for multilayered background media with homogeneous metamaterials

The acoustic cloak, which can make an object hard to detect acoustically in a homogeneous background, has attracted great attention from researchers in recent years. The inhomogeneous background

Compact acoustic antenna design using labyrinthine metamaterials

It is shown that by scaling up the refractive index and optimizing the geometry in the preliminary design, a series of square antennas can be achieved to exhibit an excellent beam-collimating effect.

Three forms of omnidirectional acoustic invisibility engineered using fast elastodynamic transfer-matrix method

Acoustic metamaterial structures with discrete and continuous rotational symmetries attract interest of theorists and engineers due to the relative simplicity of their design and fabrication. They

Three-dimensional large-scale acoustic invisibility cloak with layered metamaterials for underwater operation

A class of three-dimensional acoustic cloak for underwater operation is designed by using a multi-area coordinate transformation method. To overcome the difficulty of achieving materials with the

Acoustic cloak constructed with thin-plate metamaterials

We propose a strategy for designing the cylindrical acoustic cloak with thin-plate metamaterials. The inhomogeneous cloaking shell as derived by transformation acoustics is first discretized into a
