BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in haemodialysis patients. Hyperhomocysteinaemia is an independent risk factor. Basic research has provided strong evidence that oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
