The holographic renormalization group (RG) is reviewed in a self-contained manner. The holographic RG is based on the idea that the radial coordinate of a space-time with asymptotically AdS geometry can be identified withthe RG flow parameter of boundary field theory. After briefly discussing basic aspects of the AdS/CFT correspondence, we explain how the concept of the holographic RG emerges from this correspondence. We formulate the holographic RG on the basis of the Hamilton-Jacobi equations…

Review of Holographic RG

There is an idea that gravity theory can be described by one dimensional lower quantum theory. AdS/CFT correspondence is an important example for holography for special class of gravity theory and

Pure gauge QCD and holography

Holographic models for the pure gauge quantum chromodynamics (QCD) vacuum are explored. The holographic renormalization of these models is considered as required by a phenomenological approach that

Anisotropy in Gravity and Holography

In this thesis, we examine the dynamical structure of Horava-Lifshitz gravity, and investigate its relationship with holography for anisotropic systems.Horava-Lifshitz gravity refers to a broad class

Holographic RG flows and transport coefficients in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell theory

A bstractWe apply the membrane paradigm and the holographic Wilsonian approach to the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell theory. The transport coefficients for a quark-gluon plasma living on the cutoff

The CFT-interpolating black hole in three dimensions

We present a new exact black hole solution in three dimensional Einstein gravity coupled to a single scalar field. This is one of the extended solutions of the BTZ black hole and has in fact AdS3

Comments on contact terms and conformal manifolds in the AdS/CFT correspondence

We study the contact terms that appear in the correlation functions of exactly marginal operators using the anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence. It is known that CFT with

Black Holes and First Order Flows in Supergravity

We review the description of static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically- flat black holes in four dimensional supergravity in terms of an autonomous Hamiltonian system. A special role in this

Infrared behavior of Weyl Gravity

In this paper, we introduce and motivate the studies of Quantum Weyl Gravity (also known as Conformal Gravity). We discuss some appealing features of this theory both on classical and quantum level.

(A)dS Holography with a Cut-off

We find out the smearing/ transfer functions that relate a local bulk operator with its boundary values at a cut-off surface located at z = z0 of the AdS Poincaré patch. We compare these results with

Field-theoretical interpretation of the holographic renormalization group

A quantum-field theoretical interpretation is given to the holographic RG equation by relating it to a field-theoretical local RG equation which determines how Weyl invariance is broken in a

Holographic Renormalization Group Structure in Higher-Derivative Gravity

Classical higher-derivative gravity is investigated in the context of the holographic renormalization group (RG). We parametrize the Euclidean time such that one step of time evolution in (d +

A Study of holographic renormalization group flows in D = 6 and D = 3

We present an explicit study of the holographic renormalization group (RG) in six dimensions using minimal gauged supergravity. By perturbing the theory with the addition of a relevant operator of

Holographic Reconstruction of Spacetime¶and Renormalization in the AdS/CFT Correspondence

Abstract: We develop a systematic method for renormalizing the AdS/CFT prescription for computing correlation functions. This involves regularizing the bulk on-shell supergravity action in a

Notes on Fluctuations and Correlation Functions in Holographic Renormalization Group Flows

We study the coupled equations describing fluctuations of scalars and the metric about background solutions of N=8 gauged supergravity which are dual to boundary field theories with renormalization

On the holographic RG flow and the low-energy, strong coupling, large N limit

From the AdS/CFT correspondence, we learn that the classical evolution of supergravity in the bulk can be reduced to a RG-flow equation for the dual low-energy, strongly coupled and large N gauge

Holographic correlators in a flow to a fixed point

Using holographic renormalization, we study correlation functions throughout a renormalization group flow between two-dimensional superconformal field theories. The ultraviolet theory is an N = (4,4)

Renormalization group flows from holography supersymmetry and a c theorem

We obtain first order equations that determine a supersymmetric kink solution in fivedimensional N = 8 gauged supergravity. The kink interpolates between an exterior anti-de Sitter region with

The holographic Weyl anomaly

We calculate the Weyl anomaly for conformal field theories that can be described via the adS/CFT correspondence. This entails regularizing the gravitational part of the corresponding supergravity
