Historical data are presented for neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions in B6C3F1 (C57BL/6×C3H) mice that served as controls for short-term toxicity, long-term toxicity and carcinogenicity studies conducted at the Biosafety Research Center, Foods, Drugs, and Pesticides, (An-Pyo Center) during a 12-yr period (1980-1992). Patterns consistent with spontaneouslly-occurring tumors in specific organs were found in male and female mice and were similar to those reported in the literature. The…

Analysis of Ras Gene Mutations in Main Spontaneously-occurring Non-epithelial Tumors of B6C3F1 Mouse

TLDR
The present studies suggest that activation of the ras gene is involved only a little in occurrence of the primary spontaneous non-epithelial tumors in the B6C3F1 mouse and that the pathways other than rAS gene activation lead to the development of most non-EPithelial tumor formation in this mouse.

HISTOPATHOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF SPONTANEOUS HEPATOCELLULAR TUMORS IN B6C3F1 HYBRID MICE

TLDR
Assessment of the atypical grade in HCC is paramount for evaluation of malignancy, requiring appropriate methods for objective diagnosis, and the number of AgNOR dots tended to increase in accordance with the progression of hepatocarcinogenesis.

HISTORICAL CONTROL DATA OF SPONTANEOUS LESIONS IN BEAGLE DOGS

A variety of spontaneous lesions found histologically in control Beagle dogs (males: 91, famales; 97) used in toxicity studies that were conducted at the Biosafety Research Center, Foods, Drugs and

RESULTS-SPECIES , SEX , AND TUMOR-SITE SPECIFIC CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS IN LONG-TERM STUDIES IN RATS AND MICE

TLDR
Results of current bioassays together with mechanistic and refined, short-term studies may be evaluated collectively to aid in interpretation of results and in the mechanistic identification of these three classes of compounds.

Spontaneous Pituitary Carcinoma of the Pars Intermedia in a B6C3F1 Mouse

We encountered one pituitary carcinoma derived from the pars intermedia in an untreated female B6C3F1 mouse in a carcinogenicity study. A white nodule (6 × 5 × 3 mm) was observed in the base of the

Analysis of Ha-ras Gene in the B6C3F1 Mouse Liver by Non-RI PCR-SSCP

TLDR
To analyze the incidence of Ha-ras gene mutation in proliferative lesions in the livers of B6C3F1 mice, especially in the FCA is useful in evaluation of hepatocarcinogenicity of the chemicals.

Spontaneous Pituitary Carcinoma of the Pars Intermedia in a B 6 C 3 F 1 Mouse

TLDR
Results suggest that the tumor cells might not have actively secreted proopiomelanocortin (POMC)-derived peptides, and provide additional histopathological evidence of pituitary carcinoma of the pars intermedia in aging mice.

Proliferative and Non-Proliferative Lesions of the Rat and Mouse Integument

TLDR
The nomenclature presented herein is based on histopathology databases from government, academia, and industrial laboratories throughout the world, and covers lesions that develop spontaneously as well as those induced by exposure to various test materials.

INTERPRETATION OF BIOASSAY RESULTS

TLDR
Results of current bioassays together with mechanistic and refined, short-term studies may be evaluated collectively to aid in interpretation of results and in the mechanistic identification of these three classes of compounds.

A Spontaneously Occurring Renal Tubule Carcinoma in a Mouse

TLDR
The present renal tubule carcinoma developed in an untreated B6C3F1 male mouse at the age of 109 weeks and occupied nearly the entire renal cortex and invasion of normal renal tissue was observed.

Neoplastic and nonneoplastic lesions in aging (C57BL/6N x C3H/HeN)F1 (B6C3F1) mice.

TLDR
Comparative aspects of lesions in aging mice and their interpretation in carcinogenesis tests are discussed, including focal hyperplasias in lung and pituitary, adrenal, and thyroid glands were suggestive of the early stages of neoplasia.

HISTORICAL CONTROL DATA OF NONNEOPLASTIC AND NEOPLASTIC LESIONS IN F344/DuCrj RATS

A variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions in F344/DuCrj rats, which were used as control animals in chronic toxicity and carcinogenicity studies conducted at the Biosafety Research Center,

Spontaneous Tumors in Aging (C57BL/6N X C3H/HeN)F1 (B6C3F1) Mice

Spontaneous tumors in untreated (C57BL/6N x C3H/HeN)F1 (B6C3F1) mice used as controls in carcinogenicity tests were recorded. In both sexes, the development of spontaneous tumors was age-related. In

Historical control data of organ weight and gross findings in F344/DuCrj rats and B6C3F1 mice.

TLDR
The mean organ weight of the liver, kidney, spleen and the lung were increased associated with age in both species and historical data will contribute to analyze the organ weight and gross findings at necropsy in long-term toxicity and carcinogenicity studies.

Neoplasms observed in untreated and corn oil gavage control groups of F344/N rats and (C57BL/6N X C3H/HeN)F1 (B6C3F1) mice.

TLDR
A review of nearly 300 carcinogenesis studies done by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the NTP revealed that there were no corn oil gavage studies in which increased incidences of pancreatic acinar cell tumors or leukemia in male F344/N rats were the sole evidence of the carcinogenicity of a test chemical.

Growth, Body Weight, Survival, and Tumor Trends in (C57BL/6 X C3H/HeN) F1 (B6C3F1) Mice during a Nine-Year Period

TLDR
There were significant positive time trends for prevalences of liver tumors and lymphoma in female mice, but the trends were not significant when adjusted for interlaboratory variability.

Variability in the rates of some common naturally occurring tumors in Fischer 344 rats and (C57BL/6N x C3H/HeN)F1 (B6C3F1) mice.

TLDR
There may be instances in which the historical control rates provide relevant data needed to clearly interpret carcinogenesis bioassay results, with the use of data from bioassays of 4-chloro-m-phenylenediamine and nitrilotriacetic acid.

Spontaneous neoplasms in B6C3F1 mice.

Factors Influencing Laboratory Animal Spontaneous Tumor Profiles

TLDR
This paper discusses several factors which may influence the incidence of tumors in control and test animals, and provides examples to illustrate the potential for these factors to affect the data.
