There have been reports both supporting and refuting an inverse relationship between hip fracture and hip osteoarthritis (OA). We have investigated this relationship using histomorphometric study of femoral head subchondral bone. We studied 74 subjects with hip fracture (74% females) and 24 subjects with osteoarthritis (45% females).
