The triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) was studied in serial histological sections of the human wrist to reveal its three-dimensional fine structure. The TFCC consisted of a fibrocartilaginous disc proper and other fibrous components. Three-dimensionally, the distal portion of the TFCC had a hammock-like contour that partially surrounded the carpus; while the proximal ligamentous portion corresponding to the radioulnar ligament connected the radius to the ulna.
