This paper presents recent investigation results on free molecular flows over a diffusely or specularly reflective ellipse, by using the gaskinetic theory. A virtual density distribution along the a diffusely reflective surface is introduced to aid the investigations. Many local surface properties are obtained, including surface slip velocity, coefficients for pressure, friction, and heat flux. Global coefficients for aerodynamic forces and moments, mass center-force center distances, are also…

Comprehensive Studies on Rarefied Jet and Jet Impingement Flows with Gaskinetic Methods

This paper presents comprehensive studies on two closely related problems of high speed collisionless gaseous jet from a circular exit and impinging on an inclined rectangular flat plate, where the

Collisionless Gas Flows over a Cylindrical or Spherical Object

This paper presents exact density, velocity components, and temperature solutions for collisionless gasflows over a cylinder or a sphere. Possible real applications may include collisionless gas

Aerodynamic Disturbances on Spacecraft in Free-Molecular Flow

Abstract : This report presents a thorough development of the aerodynamic forces and moments exerted on spacecraft at altitudes where the atmosphere is best described by free molecular flow theory.

Collisionless gas flows over a flat cryogenic pump plate

This article concerns collisionless gas flows over a flat cryogenic pump plate with a specific sticking probability. It presents exact density, velocity, temperature, and pressure solutions which are

Transport dynamics of an ellipsoidal particle in free molecular gas flow regime

Translational and rotational dynamics of a transporting particle in the free molecular gas flow regime are investigated using an in-house, multi-species, three dimensional Direct Simulation Monte

Asymptotic theory of a uniform flow of a rarefied gas past a sphere at low Mach numbers

A slow uniform flow of a rarefied gas past a sphere with a uniform temperature is considered. The steady behaviour of the gas is investigated on the basis of the Boltzmann equation by a systematic
