Higher-order geometrical optics for electromagnetic waves on a curved spacetime
@article{Dolan2018HigherorderGO, title={Higher-order geometrical optics for electromagnetic waves on a curved spacetime}, author={Sam R. Dolan}, journal={arXiv: General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology}, year={2018} }
We study the geometrical-optics expansion for circularly-polarized electromagnetic waves propagating on a curved spacetime in general relativity. We show that higher-order corrections to the Faraday and stress-energy tensors may be found via a system of transport equations, in principle. At sub-leading order, the stress-energy tensor possesses terms proportional to the wavelength whose sign depends on the handedness of the circular polarization. Due to such terms, the direction of energy flow…

Light propagation in cosmology is usually studied in the geometrical optics approximation which requires the spacetime curvature to be much smaller than the light wavenumber. However, for non-fuzzy…
Gravitational Faraday and spin-Hall effects of light

The gravitational Faraday and its dual spin-Hall effects of light arise in space-times of non-zero angular momentum. These effects were studied in stationary, asymptotically flat space-times. Here we…

In this thesis we study aspects of strong-field gravitational lensing by black holes in general relativity, with a particular focus on the role of integrability and chaos in geodesic motion. We first…
